Steven Universe * Diopside

This is the final design concept of Diopside.

Diospide was a army general/leader of Homeworld, and a champion of the gem planet. He was highly respected by the gems, and was a huge role model to them all. Moonstone is one of his closet friends, and has been with him since they were very young. They met in a training school for the gem army, however with Moonstone’s peaceful ways he didn’t get far. Yet Diopside agreed with his opinions. He trained many gems in the arts of combat and battle. Although he preferred the best way to end a war was in peaceful terms. However the Great Gem War was something he wasn’t truly prepared for. During the massive conflict he had to choose which side was worthy of fighting on. He lead Homeworld from the start but in the end, he turned on them for the sake of peace. Moonstone was already on the rebel side, fighting to protect Earth from the Homeworld's invasion. Diopside remembered what he told him, and felt that humans and their planet were worth to fighting over. And so he betrayed them, and began a new life as a gem rebel along with Moonstone. Together they travel the Earth looking for other gems. Soon they would find their team.

Even with all his muscle and strength, Diopside is a like a giant teddy bear. He’s very friendly and kindhearted. He’ll give you a bear hug if you let him. His gem is located on the back of his neck, and he uses it to summon his crystal gauntlets. It’s tear drop shaped. They are equipped with star knuckles, and can break their way through common hard materials. A little fun fact is when when summoning his weapon, Diopside’s hands are covered in crystals, and in mere moments they grow the form the gauntlets. Their also made of his gemstone as well. Along with the strength and power, Diopside can also tell the climate by placing his hand to his gem. His eyes glow and he be more accurate than a meteorologist. It’s a little nod to his pony counterpart Derecho. Also a little trick he know is crystal healing, he can mend minor wounds and cuts. Unlike Cinnabar who can manage slight harder injuries. I bet if combined they can be gems of healing.

From that he get to his outfit, it’s much like what he wore back on Homeworld, minus the diamonds. His neck collar covers his gem partially, but if looked at closely you can notice it. I based his design on Army uniforms, and Jasper who inspired me for the bulkiness of his figure. Maybe their related. His hands are bandage, this is from scarring and wounds from the old days. But their minor yet have not been seen.

Lastly and this is my favorite part to explain. His hair originally it was going to be short. But then my friend did a little depiction of him with a short ponytail. And I just had to incorporate into my design, and so I did. That is a nod to her, thank you once again Warrior! ^v^ Oh and she also came up with the weapon design too. OvO

Also Diopside doesn’t have any nicknames. However it could be Diop or Dio, but I haven’t really decided.
